FIELD NOTE · THE CLARITY GAP

The most expensive misunderstandings often look like execution problems.

In a few words

The clarity gap is the distance between what a leader believes is already clear and what other people can actually interpret, decide and turn into action. It becomes visible when an apparently understood strategy produces reopened decisions, contradictory priorities or work moving in different directions.

UNDERSTAND MORE

01

EXAMPLE

The same strategy can produce three different priorities

A presentation ends with nods. One week later, product protects one priority, sales promises another and operations optimizes a third. It may look like an execution problem even though there was never enough agreement about what changed, why it mattered and which decision had precedence.

02

More communication can add more noise

Meetings, documents and dashboards do not close the gap by themselves. If each artifact adds information without resolving meaning, ownership or authority, the organization merely accelerates interpretation production.

03

AI can scale ambiguity that already existed

When every team can produce more analysis, content and actions, missing shared context scales faster too. Additional capability does not guarantee coordination.

04

Observe the gap before prescribing a solution

Look for concrete signals: reopened decisions, incompatible explanations, diffuse owners, evidence that is hard to trace and lessons that do not change the next move.

FROM INSIGHT TO ACTION

Find the friction before choosing the intervention.

The Clarity Check is not an organizational diagnosis. It creates a first signal for deciding where stronger evidence is worth pursuing.
